Brief introduction

A pitch shifter is an audio processor that changes the pitch of an audio signal. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, pitch shifting has had enormous influence on recorded music.

Godflesh's main disciples in the difficult art of industrial-tinged grindcore could be Pitchshifter. Pitchshifter, along with Godflesh, the Young Gods and a few others, were among the first wave of acts to tweak the Metal structure with heavy doses of technology. They started out in the early-1990s industrial underground as aggressive social confronters hearkening back to the early days of British punk and American hardcore. The band manages to combine Nine Inch Nail's psychotic atmospheres, Henry Rollins's visceral delivery and Ministry's manic assault, but mediated via Prodigy's living-room techno.
