Brief introduction

Experimental NYC band, founded by bassist and producer Bill Laswell and keyboard player Michael Beinhorn. Material pioneered a groundbreaking fusion of jazz, funk, and punk that also incorporated elements of hip-hop and world music well before either's entrance into the mass cultural consciousness. They are a longtime linchpin of the New York City underground music scene. As a performer, producer and label chief, Bill Laswell's imprint is on literally hundreds of albums.
