Hope Of the States于2000年在 Chichester组建，他们名字取自Albert Deutsch谴责美国精神病收容制度的一份精神病学研究报告。结成团体的Sam Herlihy，Anthony Theaker 和 James Lawrence是多年的玩伴，他们被当时的Brit pop风潮所吸引，还使用军装来表明乐队的统一性。2004年1月，吉他手James Lawrence在Bath附近悬梁自尽。这一足以使大多数乐队解散的悲剧并没有打垮Hope of the States，他们重新回到了舞台上。

Brief introduction

Taking their name from an Albert Deutsch psychiatric paper lambaste the state of the U.S mental asylum system, Hope Of the States formed in Chichester in December 2000. Sam Herlihy, Anthony Theaker and James Lawrence were mates who had known each other for years. They obsessed over the latest Brit pop phenomenon and adopted military uniforms to signify band unity. In January, 2004, the guitarist James Lawrence was found hanging near Bath. This tragedy would be enough to tear most bands apart but Hope of the States are clawing their way back into the spotlight.
