Brief introduction The band emerged apparently from nowhere at the tail end of the 1980’s. Combining ethereal vocals and melodies with loud, droning guitars, Cranes seemed to perfectly encapsulate the twin tendencies of 80s art-rock: the foreboding industrial noise of bands like EinstŸrzende Neubauten, Swans and The Young Gods and the likes of Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance.
