Brief
introduction
Carmina Burana, Latin for
"Songs from Beuern" is a manuscript of 254 poems and dramatic texts
from the 13th century, discovered in 1803 at Benediktbeuren, a
Benedictine monastery in South Germany. The poems comprise religious, political, moral, erotic, Bacchic
and Satirical verses.
Carmina Burana made famous
when the German composer Carl Orff set them for chorus in the 1937. Carl Orff
(Jul. 10,1895-Mar. 29, 1982) was born in Munich
and was an educationalist as well as a composer. He wrote a secular cantata, titled "Carmina Burana"
based on the poems from the manuscript, but did not use any of the
original melodies. It was first performed in Frankfurt in 1937, San Francisco in 1958,
London in 1960 and continues to be a popular concert
choice. |

这些诗歌涉及宗教、政治、道德、情色、醉酒和讽刺内容。
