Higgins出生于康涅狄格州的Sharon，7岁时他有了第一把吉他。后来他从1960年代早期的民谣复兴运动中获得了不少启发。1972年Higgins因售卖大麻而被判入狱13个月，服刑前他召集朋友们录了一张LP，名为Red Hash。该唱片明显含有迷幻民谣成分，乐器演奏亦非常精彩。歌曲听上去就像梦中低语，原声吉他、风琴、贝司、钢琴、大提琴、曼陀铃和长笛像潮水一样时起时落。Red Hash被当今的一些乐队如Animal Collective, Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart和Espers等推崇备至。

Brief introduction

Born in Sharon, CT, Higgins received his first guitar at age seven. Later he found inspiration in the folk revival of the early 1960s. In  1972 Higgins was sentenced to 13 months in prison for selling marijuana, and just before entering jail he called on his friends to record an LP, called Red Hash. The record contains undeniable psycho-folk elements and excellent instrumentation. The songs are whispered as in a dream and lulled by a gentle tide of acoustic guitar, organ, bass, piano, cello, mandolin and flute. Red Hash is held in very high regard by current bands like Animal Collective, Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart, and Espers etc.
