Brief introduction

The trio Peter, Paul & Mary was one of the most successful folk-singing groups of the 1960s. They were brought together by manager Albert Grossman, who was looking to form a "folk-pop supergroup" made up of a tall blonde girl (Travers), a good-looking guy (Yarrow), and a jokester (Stookey).

The music of PPM captured the zeitgeist of the racially and politically charged early 1960s and combined it with artfully arranged vocal harmonies. In August 1963 their performance of Blowin' In The Wind to an army of black freedom marchers in Washington who had just heard Martin Luther King deliver his "I have a dream" speech was the high point of their career.
