Brief introduction As a Mississippi native who moved to Chicago in the late 1940s, Otis Rush was a venerable electric guitarist as well as a knockout songwriter. He is left-handed and played often with the little finger of his pick hand curled under the low E for positioning. He also has a wide-ranging, powerful tenor voice. His distinctive guitar style features a slow burning sound and long bent notes. Rush is credited with being one of the founders of the West side guitar style, along with Magic Sam and Buddy Guy. The depth of his emotion and his power of expression are so overwhelming that he’s actually been criticized for making listeners feel too sad. |
