Joey is an emotionally unsettled young man who lives in New York. His romantic love with girlfriend Laura comes to a sudden end when Laura dies. Joey is unable to deal with the trauma. He bathes her, dresses her, takes her corpse and sets out on a desultory road trip from New Jersey to his former home in West Virginia. As she decomposes, he slips further into madness.
