Russian
writer Gorchakov who is trapped by his unhappy marriage seeks a Russian
composer's material to write his biography. Here he meets Domenico,
who
declares
that
the world
is coming
to an end. Gorchakov finds this
prophecy curiously more alluring than the possibility of a dead-end
future. Domenico makes his
speech on a square then burns his body. Following Domenico, Gorchakov
attempts to walk through the pond
with a burning candle in hand. He succeeds at last.
