The central character Thomas, a young, rich, petulant photographer, was very much a symbol of that period. Thomas wanders through a park and takes some pictures of a happy couple, much to the disgust of the woman Jane. When he goes back to develop the pictures he finds he may have witnessed a murder. Thomas goes back to the park at night and finds the corpse hidden in the bushes. Later he discovers the corpse and the pictures have both disappeared. It all might never have happened. The photographer, leaving the park, takes part with some students in an imaginary tennis match, without a ball or racquet, yet with the sounds of a game being heard on the soundtrack.
