Using almost no dialogue, the film follows a number of residents - both human and animal - of a small rural community in Hungary. Many of the men seem idle, while the women work in both the fields and the factories.

The day begins as a wizened old man awakens and takes his place on a bench in front of his house. We witness the villagers going about their daily tasks, a cart driver spies on a young shepherd girl, a man and woman proudly watch as their prize hogs mate, an old woman prepares a meal for her family, as do the animals and the plant life as well…and then there’s the discovery of a dead body in a lake.

这部电影基本没有对话。主角是匈牙利一个小村庄的居民——包括人和动物。那里很多男人似乎无所事事，女人却在农田和工厂里劳作。

一个干瘦老头睡醒了，坐在房前的长椅上，一天就这样开始了。村民们的生活展现在我们面前，一个卡车司机暗中监视着一个牧羊女，一个男人和一个女人得意洋洋地看着他们的良种猪交配，一个老太婆在准备晚餐，还有那些动物和植物也这样生活着......然后在湖底发现一具尸体。
