The film is primarily inspirited by a near death experience the director had when he was 19, after a car crash. It deal with the creation myth brought to life.

Without dialogue, the film is shot in rough black and white. Each image is a seductive mystery. It also has no music, instead, accompanied by the sounds of crickets, human breathing and occasionally other sound effects such as grunting and thrashing.

The film opens in an ancient land amid the chilling spectacle of a masked, white-robed  "God"  disemboweling himself. A woman, Mother Earth, emerges from his corpse, arouses the body, and impregnates herself with his semen. She soon gives birth to "Son of Earth" who is initially revered by local tribesmen, but violence and tragedy take over when they attempt to venture to a new land. A group of faceless nomads dismember them successively. Their burial site becomes lush with flowers.

电影的灵感最初来自于导演19岁时所经历的一次车祸带来的濒死体验。它说的是关于生命诞生的创世神话。

电影里没有对话，画面被拍摄成粗糙的黑白色调，每一幅都是一个诱人的奥秘。电影里也没有音乐，只有蟋蟀叫声、人的呼吸以及偶尔出现的野性嗥叫和鞭打声。

电影开始于一个古代场景，眼前的景象令人不寒而栗，一位戴着面具身穿白袍的“上帝”正切腹自杀。一位女性，大地母亲，从他的尸体中挣脱出来，她唤醒尸体，用他的精液使自己怀孕。不久她生下“大地之子”，后者起初受到部落长老尊敬，但当他们踏上新土地时暴力和悲剧就降临了。一群看不到面孔的流浪汉将他们先后肢解。他们的葬身之处变得鲜花繁茂。
