In March of 2003 experimental filmmaker Stan Brakhage succumbed to cancer. Working completely outside the mainstream, Stan Brakhage has made nearly 400 films over the past half century.
Stan Brakhage rarely uses any sort of narrative. His work ranges from experimental filmings of explicit lovemaking, childbirth and autopsies to moving works of art created by painting, drawing and scratching directly onto the film itself. His films of "birth, sex, and the search for God" offering a complete visual experience, challenging the viewer's perceptions and his way of seeing.
