“O Primeiro Dia” means "The First Day". This Brazilian feature is one in the "2000 Seen By..." series of Millennium-themed films co-produced by France's Haut & Court.

João, a fugitive prisoner, takes advantage of an escape facilitated by guards who insist freedom has its price: he must kill an informer, who just happens to be his old friend Chico. But little does João know, he is the next one to be hunted. Maria, a teacher for the deaf who becomes utterly dejected when her husband uses the end of the century as an excuse to leave her.

Rio de Janeiro, just before the start of the new millennium. Neither João nor Maria expect to join the massive celebrations. Looking out over a beautiful Rio beach lit up with fireworks, Suicidal Maria and desperate João find themselves flung together by fate atop her sky rise apartment building.

“O Primeiro Dia”直译过来就是“第一天”的意思。这部巴西故事片是法国Haut & Court出品的以千禧年为主题的“2000观瞻”系列中的一部。

João是一个逃犯，他与看守达成默契才得以越狱，后者给出的条件就是他必须杀掉一个告密者，而此人正是João的老朋友Chico。但João不知道，自己就是他们的下一个目标。Maria则是一位教授聋哑人语言的教师，她的丈夫借着世纪末的当口离开了她，Maria非常沮丧。

在里约热内卢，新千年就要到来。但无论是João还是Maria都无心加入庆祝活动。望着被焰火照得通明美丽的里约海滩，企图自杀的Maria和穷途末路的João发现他们一起被命运带到了Maria居住的高层公寓的屋顶上。
