A story of an 18-year (1976-1994)
pen-pal friendship between two very different people. Mary Daisy Dinkle
is a lonely 8-year-old girl living in the suburbs of Melbourne, Max Jerry Horovitz
is a 44-year-old Jewish man with Asperger syndrome who lives in New
York City. They didn't know each other until Mary randomly points to
a name in phone book in hopes of gaining an answer to where babies
come from in America.
So begins the extraordinary
communication between these two lonely souls. They discuss
everything from obesity, autism, alcoholism, religious differences
and any other topics that comes to mind.
As Mary turns into a young lady,
she runs into some discouragements. She arrives in NY with her baby
after rebuilding her life but loses the chance to talk with Max. |

,就在电话簿中随便挑了个名字。
于是两个孤独的人就开始了非同寻常的交流。他们谈论肥胖、自闭症、酗酒、宗教差异以及随便想起来的其他话题。
